CDPR rocks it: New Cyberpunk, 5 confirmed Witcher games and third major brand

CD Projekt Red: The Roadmap for The Witcher, Cyberpunk and More

Polish publisher CD Projekt Red doesn’t do things by halves. After the focus in 2021 and 2022 was on repairing and expanding Cyberpunk 2077, the company is now finally going on the offensive and announcing various projects related to astronomy.

Orion: “Next Cyberpunk”

According to the CDPR, the Code Orion is the “next cyberpunk game”. The plan is to “promote the cyberpunk brand and further exploit the potential of this bleak future,” according to CDPR. One can assume that Unreal Engine 5 will also be used here, as in The Witcher “4”, and the previous RED engine will be mothballed. This means that the community demand for a second expansion should remain wishful thinking.

Polaris: The Witcher “4” and more

The next astronomical codename is Polaris. This is how CDPR describes the previously announced The Witcher “4” based on Unreal Engine 5. The title is still in pre-production (150+ developers) and ushers in a new saga. CDPR is now making it clear what that means: They are planning to release two more The Witcher games after Polaris, so that it will end up being a role-playing trilogy. All this should appear within six years after the Polaris release.

Canis Majoris: “Full Witcher Game”

Three The Witcher games are confirmed, but that’s not enough for CDPR. An outside studio led by “an experienced team of former Witcher developers” is working on a “full The Witcher game” independent of the saga that Polaris will usher in. So Canis Majoris should be a one-time affair for the time being – the background to the game is still unclear.

Sirius: Another game in the Witcher universe

Four The Witcher projects aren’t enough? Correct, because player number 5 comes from the acquired studio Molasses Fleed, which has been working on a game in the Witcher universe for some time. According to the CDPR, it should “differ from previous productions” and include multiplayer gameplay in addition to a “single-player experience with story and campaign”. That would then be the first CDPR game in this direction. So far, multiplayer is only available for Gwent-based games.

Hadar: A third brand

Perhaps the biggest announcement for CDPR is the codename Hadar. So far, CDPR has always insisted on having two mainstays with The Witcher and Cyberpunk. Now there’s a third, as Hadar is described as a “completely standalone IP” that is “developed from the ground up at CDPR”. There isn’t much to tell here yet, because Hadar isn’t a game yet. According to CDPR, they are “in the earliest phase of the creative process” and are only working on the basis for this new setting. Hadar is developed 100 percent in-house.

Further details on the announced projects will be published in the course of the afternoon. How do you rate all the announcements? Use the comment function and let us know what you think.
