The Last of Us: The series is so close to the game – fan recreates trailer scenes in the game

A fan has almost mirrored scenes from the first trailer in photo mode.

On Outbreak Day of The Last of Us, the first proper trailer for the upcoming HBO series based on the acclaimed franchise was recently released. Of course, fans have thrown themselves directly into the analysis. A fan on Twitter used the photo mode in The Last of Us Part 1 to recreate some scenes in great detail.

The similarities are so impressive

The Twitter user, who incidentally also generally does beautiful virtual photography in the game, recreated a total of 16 scenes in photo mode. Sometimes it’s even hard to tell the difference between the series and the game.

Although the trailer was praised by many fans for its fidelity to the source material after the first viewing, these images once again illustrate how much attention to detail is put into the trailer and ultimately also into the series.

We recognize numerous shots and camera angles that give us goosebumps again. For example, there is Joel’s broken watch, Marlene with her gunshot wound, who is probably confiding in Ellie right now, and an impressively nasty clicker. Even the carousel scene from the Left Behind DLC is perfectly captured and sends a nostalgic shiver down our spines.

Even Craig Mazin, who co-writes and produces the series with Neil Druckmann, is quite impressed, as you can see above.

Excitement until the release

The images of the HBO series that have been shown so far, be they in motion or not, give more than hope for one of the few adaptations that does justice to its role model. But that is probably also due to the fact that Neil Druckmann himself is involved, after all he was also creative director and one of the authors of Part 1, Left Behind and Part 2.

Even if it often raises questions, it is by no means a given that the creative minds behind a game are also involved in the series. All the better that The Last of Us from HBO has taken a different path and hopefully follows in the footsteps of great series adaptations like Arcane.

The series about The Last of Us will appear in 2023 on HBO Max and in Germany on Sky Atlantic and WOW (formerly Sky Ticket).
