Dead Space Remake: Features presented - with gameplay trailer and image comparisons

from Norman Wittkopf
The new edition of the sci-fi horror classic Dead Space by EA Motive is supposed to have more to offer than the original, not just graphically, but also in terms of gameplay. There are now new insights into this.

As is well known, a completely revised version of Dead Space for PC and consoles will be released on January 27th. The developers had only recently commented on its graphical advantages. A gameplay trailer has now been released that gives a comprehensive look at the look of the remake, but also reveals one or the other playful innovation compared to the original.

In line with the new trailer, the new features were also presented in more detail in a press release and are intended to bring the game a little more up to date, while at the same time maintaining the atmosphere and playing feel of Dead Space, which was released in 2008 should be retained as far as possible.

Dead Space Remake: What’s new

In addition to the complete redesign of animations, textures and Co. in the Frostbite engine and improved sound, there should also be new narrative elements. Of course, the story about engineer Isaac Clarke looking for his girlfriend on board the mining spaceship USG Ishimura with its dead or infected crew does not change fundamentally, but according to the announcement there should be “more to discover”.

Disassemble and more intensity

The “disassembly system” for almost hair-exact dismemberment of the necromorphs is new in the game, which should also give more opportunities “to get creative in the fight against this terrible opponent”. Meanwhile, the new “Intensity Director” dynamically adjusts what happens to the player along the way – from “Necromorph spawns and the way they attack to environmental effects such as light, smoke, particles and sound”. Heartbeat, breathing and exertion should also adapt to the stress level and give direct feedback on the character’s condition.

With voice and new content

The originally mute protagonist is now spoken in English by Gunner Wright, the original voice of Isaac from Dead Space 2 (2011) and Dead Space 3 (2013). Meanwhile, loading screens or camera cuts should be a thing of the past throughout the game. Nevertheless, the spaceship has been equipped with new rooms, paths and obstacles and should offer seamless exploration including new map controls and an improved positioning system. Players should be able to get a precise impression of this on January 27, 2023 on PC (Origin, Steam and Epic Games Store) as well as on Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
