Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power – Who is Celeborn?

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power - Who is Celeborn?

In Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Celeborn is only mentioned in the seventh episode. The character actually plays a very important role alongside Galadriel. We clarify who Celeborn actually is and how his character in the series differs from that in the books.

Rings of Power: Who is Celeborn?

That’s what it’s about: The Amazon series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is based on the Silmarillion Tales by JRR Tolkien and sort of tells the prequel to the “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books and films. However, there are also bigger differences, such as the character Celeborn.

Who is Celeborn? Galadriel’s husband. The two get to know each other in the original in the first age. They first live together in Doriath, then in Arvernia, Lindon and Eregion. At the time of the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Celeborn rules Lothlórien alongside his wife Galadriel.

Celeborn and Galadriel have one in the books Daughter named Celebrian. She later marries Elrond and get together the two the children Arwen Undomiel as well as Elrohir and Elladan.

Celeborn also plays an important role during the Great War of the Ring. Of the Lord of the Galadhrim leads the Elven army into Mirkwood and takes Dol Guldur. Fun fact: Celeborn is sometimes also called Teleporno in the books.

Where is Celeborn in The Rings of Power?

Who knows the books, must have wondered when watching the series where Celeborn actually is. After all, the series is primarily about Galadriel, but there is no trace of her husband Celeborn.

In episode 7 of the first season, light comes into the darkness: Galadriel and Theo wander through the newly created Mordor after the mountain of fate has broken out. Then she explains to him that she also lost her husband Celeborn to Sauron.

Massive Deviation: Does that actually mean that Celeborn in The Rings Of Power no longer lives, that would be a stark change from the history of the books. So far they have been of a smaller nature, apart from maybe of the function of mithril.

Is Celeborn alive or is he really dead in The Rings of Power?

That is the question: At least Galadriel didn’t explicitly say that Celeborn definitely died. It so it might still be a possibilitythat she only believes that in “The Rings of Power”, but in fact he is still alive.

That Celeborn is still alive, seems most likely. After all, the character is quite an important character and the husband of a main character. We also consider such a blatant change in history to be rather unlikely.

So maybe there will be another one in the near future great reunion of Galadriel and Celeborn. The reunion of the two could also go well with that Reappearance of Sauron collapse and possibly that Season finale in episode 8 form.

What do you think if Celeborn really died? What do you think of such a change?
