Overwatch 2 Online: Critics Love It, Gamers Hate It (Or Something Like That)

Overwatch 2 Online: Critics Love It, Gamers Hate It (Or Something Like That)

Blizzard finally released Overwatch 2 earlier this week and, as expected, failed to prepare the servers for the massive influx of players. The hero shooter also had to accept some DDoS attacks.

Good game, bad servers

First, let’s look at the holy measure of all things. No, not our Eurogamer rating, that’s yet to come. I’m talking of course Metacritic. There is a huge gap between the tester and player votes. Sure, the players are angry – some because they are prevented from playing with server problems or the new SMS-Protect, others because Overwatch 1 was ruined for them.

Some players miss voting at the end of each game so they can get some extra credit, while others complain that they can’t get free skins as quickly as they did in Overwatch 1. The prices of the skins are generally criticized, as is the now faster gameplay, which some people probably don’t like. In addition, in contrast to Overwatch 1, too little has changed. So at the same time it’s too different.

The user rating on Metacritic is therefore currently 1.3 points. Of 716 ratings, 642 are negative. After all, there are also 53 players who like the game very much. “Blizzard made a cool game (update) and the game’s toxic community is not used to new products. The only thing I can say is that there is little currency farming, I wish Blizzard would take that into account” writes a user who claims to have put 680 hours into Overwatch 1.

Five-person teams aren’t fun anymore, tanks are now OP, and playing supports isn’t fun anymore either. Yes, the Internet makes a cruel judgment. Fortunately, such statements are always subjective and there are also many players who like the new gameplay concept much better.

The 22 testers so far give the game an overall rating of 81 points. The scores range from 60 to 95 – the biggest criticism here is again the lack of justification for a completely new game and just enough to keep returning players busy for a while. Even big influencers reflect this opinion, too AlexiBexi on twitter. Others praise the changes and the well-rounded concept for the launch. A “worthy successor” with a promising concept to build on in the future.

Opinions are mixed online. Some find that Overwatch 2 “incredibly buck” makes, others say that the game “horrible” be and again “flop as well” will be like the first part. However, the anger and disappointment at the queues and crashes still outweigh the comments on the actual gameplay.
