Overwatch 2: Bug forces players to make in-game purchases

Last week finally went blizzards long announced Overwatch 2 at the start. But the launch did not go as smoothly as the developer studio had hoped. The release of the Free2Play shooter was made by massive server problems screwed up which Blizzard shortly afterwards with multiple DDoS attacks explained. The servers are now running fairly stable again, although players are still struggling with occasional disconnects. In addition to the servers, the development team is also involved countless bugs to do that need to be eliminated. At the start last week, for example, an error appeared that led to Players accidentally bought character skins.

Bad purchases through the in-game chat

According to various Overwatch 2 players Reddit the bug causing the unexpected purchases was related to the in-game chat. If a player was browsing the hero gallery while typing a message in chat, “the keystrokes were misinterpreted by the game as input for navigating the menu”.

“Unfortunately, to unlock a skin, you only need to hit the spacebar twice, which can happen in a split second if you’re hitting it dozens of times per set”according to Reddit users Dracyoshiwho accidentally unlocked Junker Queen’s Plutonium skin while chatting.

The annoying thing is that Blizzard no refunds Granted on digital items purchased with in-game currency as all sales are final. Those who accidentally bought an item in the shop were probably just unlucky.

A hotfix released Thursday night appears to have fixed the chat bug, making it reportedly safe to use chat while browsing the hero gallery.
