Starfield is Bethesda’s largest project with 500 developers involved

Starfield will have DLC expansions, and support for mods, GamersRD

Originally planned to launch this year, Starfield of Bethesda was delayed to the first half of 2023. Being one of the most anticipated titles, due to the background that the company has, in addition to the expectations that the game has created. With 1,000 planets to explore and more freedom to play. In statements to PCGamesNformer artist Nate Purkeypile (who left to form his studio, Just Purkey Games) offered a few more details about the size of the project.

Purkeypile has worked at Bethesda for 14 years, from Fallout 3 until Starfield. Some details could not be revealed, but it did confirm about 500 developers on the project.

“The scope of that project is the main thing that’s different, because, you know, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, all of that was a team. Fallout 76, it was two mostly, we had a little help from Montreal, but it was mainly the Austin and Maryland studios [Bethesda] working together. But yeah, Starfield is a much bigger project, it’s like 500 people or something on the team, whereas I think [Fallout] 76 was maybe 200, tops.”

While many things could have changed since his departure, Purkeypile noted that the biggest challenge was the sheer amount of work and detail that a new fictional universe requires.

“There are not always solved problems about how things should look. What can be so many particular things, like what shape are the metal panels? How do they screw things? What colors do you use? What materials do they have? How to make a difference between all these different areas? So that’s a lot harder compared to if you were to ask me like, hey, do another follow-up game.

“You have to figure everything out, and there’s also all this extrapolative fiction to figure out. You’d be surprised how many metal panels they did in concept.”

Starfield It will be released for Xbox Series X/S and PC along with Game Pass. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
