Xbox Series S is to blame for Gotham Knights running at 30fps

Before the release of the action game Gotham Knights, WB Games had confirmed the news that it would run locked at 30fps and without graphics modes available as is often the case with current generation games. Unsurprisingly, this news angered fans who were hoping for better performance on current consoles, as development for the Old-Gen was cancelled.

However, a developer who has worked on the team that created the game, says that the Xbox Series S console is to blame for this situation. The current generation Xbox platform with lower technical features but that supports games at 1080p and 60fps .

Rocksteady developer Lee Devonald claimed it wasn’t enough, blaming the console for the game running at 30 FPS on all new-gen consoles. He posted these statements on his Twitter account, which he later deleted:

Xbox Series S is to blame for Gotham Knights running at 30fps

“The Series S exists and Microsoft will not allow a game to be released on one console (Xbox Series X) without the other. A whole generation of games paralyzed by that potato.”

“I wish people realized what 60fps means, in terms of what you can lose, considering we have a current-gen console that isn’t much better than a latest one. I wish they understood that each enemy on screen takes up a portion of that time. Do you want a dynamic day? And global illumination? That usually means 4 or more milliseconds at a time. A quarter of the budget in frames is gone, it’s just that. Shades? One or two more. Before you get to game features like enemy count, your framerate budget has already been used up.”

This is something that will not please the owners of a Series S, considering that it is an excellent console.

Gotham Knights is now available for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. You can read our review at this link.
