Original message from March 22, 2020: The creators of Pokémon Go have announced a reunion with the legendary Gen 4 Pokémon Giratina. After Dialga says goodbye to the arenas on March 28th at 10 p.m., Giratina returns in his changed form – but only for a short time. From March 29 (actually March 28 at 10 p.m., but no new raids will spawn in PoGo after 9 p.m.) until April 2, 2019 at 10 p.m., you can once again face the Pokemon’s mutated form, before from the April 3, 2019 (again: actually from April 2 at 10 p.m., but no new raids will spawn at that time until the next day) then Giratina in its original form will make its appearance in the Tier 5 raids.

You then have around four weeks to add Giratina in its original form as a Dragon and Ghost type Pokémon to your collection before the Tier 5 bosses change again on April 28, 2019 from 10 p.m. It is best to counter Giratina in its original form with dragon, dark, spirit or ice attacks, i.e. attackers such as Rayquaza, Dragoran, Palkia, Gengar, Mewtwo or Despotar.

Pokémon Go: Giratina (original form) as a raid boss

Giratina has around 41,776 WP in its original form. If you want to approach the Pokemon as a trainer duo, then you should face the fight with a best friend bonus and level 40 Dragon Pokemon. Strong Mamuttel and Gengar can also be helpful. Otherwise, you will either approach the battle with three to six high-level trainers, or with six or more low-level players.

As a Dragon and Ghost-type Pokémon, Giratina’s primal form attacks are boosted by windy, partly cloudy, and foggy weather. Windy Weather boosts Giratina’s Fire Breath and Dragon Claw attacks; foggy weather, on the other hand, strengthens Giratina’s Dark Claw and Shadow Strike. If you encounter Giratina (primordial form) in Pokémon Go in partly cloudy weather, the attack Ancient Power will be boosted. If you don’t attach any greater importance to catching Giratina at level 25, then it is best to attack in snow or cloudy weather, because then the ice (in snow) or fairy attacks (in cloudy weather) of your counter pocket monsters will be strengthened .

Basically, the following attackers are recommended for the fight against Giratina (original form) in Pokémon Go:

  • Rayquaza with the attacks Dragon Tail and Enrage
  • Palkia with the attacks Dragon Rod and Draco Meteor
  • Brutalanda with the attacks Dragon Rod and Draco Meteor
  • Gengar with the attacks Lick/Darkclaw and Spooky Ball
  • dragonite with the attacks Dragon Tail and Enrage
  • dialga with the attacks Fire Breath and Draco Meteor
