Dragon Age 4: Dreadwolf is now fully playable

from Andrew Link
The fourth installment in the Dragon Age series, Dreadwolf, is now fully playable and has entered alpha. Bioware is now working on the completed game. Graphics, gameplay, story and in the end of course bugfixing and polishing.

We haven’t heard anything from Dragon Age 4 for a few days, but now Bioware has spoken out. Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, as the new RPG adventure is called, is now in the alpha phase and can be played through from start to finish. “Up to this point we’ve been working hard on the different parts of the game, but it’s only in the alpha phase that everything comes together as one game,” the developer explains in a developer blog. “Now for the first time we can experience the entire game, from the first scenes of the first mission to the end,” it continues. “We can see, hear, feel and play everything as a cohesive experience.”

Of course, the game is still a long way from the release. The developers outline the next steps in the blog. You now see whether the game mechanics work as planned: whether there are problems with balancing or whether the story fits – progress, speed, narrative, relationships. The graphics are optimized and the gameplay readjusted. And of course bug fixes and polishing at the end. “Now that we have the opportunity to do a complete walkthrough,” added Bioware, “we can revise and refine the things that matter most to our fans.”

Dragon Age 4 has a title: The dreadwolf gets a central role

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is expected to be released in late 2023; nothing is officially known yet. Its content has been roughly outlined: “Solas, the dire wolf. Some say he may be an ancient elven god, but some say the opposite. Others say he is a traitor to his people…or a savior who now turns them on costs your world. His motives are inscrutable and his methods sometimes questionable, which has earned him a reputation as a cheat god – a player of dark and dangerous games.”

“#TheDreadWolfRises” was already teased in 2018. It wasn’t given much thought back then, nor when it featured Solas, a powerful villain in the game known as the Dreadwolf, and in Inquisition as Fen’Harel, the lord of crooks and elven god of treachery. In 2022, the covers were dropped and the first concrete hints about the game were given.
