Battlefield 2042: All new information about Season 3 of the multiplayer shooter

Even a good year after the release, Battlefield 2042 has not yet gotten over its more than bumpy launch. In terms of content, however, DICE remains on course: Season 3 will be released soon.

Appropriately, the developers now have their plans for the coming season presented, which is more than just content expansion. As in the two previous seasons, there are new map reworks again, but this time a class system is also unpacked.

Battlefield 2042: The class system returns

Probably the biggest innovation in Season 3 is that Battlefield 2042 brings back the class system from previous parts of the series – but adjusted quite a bit. The previous specialists will be divided into four different classes in the future, but will at least retain their special skills. Only with the gadgets there are certain restrictions depending on the class.

When it comes to weapons, DICE takes a middle ground: Any class can still use any weapon. However, each class gets a small benefit for certain weapons:

  • Assault: After sprinting, assault rifles are ready to fire faster
  • Support Soldiers: Additional magazines for light machine guns and even more efficient with a bipod
  • Pioneers: Improved reload behavior for universal weapons
  • Spotter: Aiming with a sniper rifle can hold your breath longer

The class system will not be ready for the release of Season 3. This should only follow with update 3.2, which is expected to appear in early 2023.

The other innovations of Season 3

In addition to the class system, Season 3 will also bring other changes. On the one hand there are the next map reworks. First up in 3.1 is the Manifest map, which gets an overhaul that improves the paths between flags and adds more cover.

With update 3.2, the rework for the Umbruch map follows, in which DICE changes a little more. For one, entire checkpoints are either removed or moved slightly, which should make the game flow feel better. In addition, the developers bring the oil rig, which was previously very remote, a little closer to the battlefield.

In addition, Season 3 will also bring new vault weapons to the main game, such as the XM8 light machine gun and the A-91 assault rifle. There will also be a completely new multiplayer map, this time set in Sweden. More details are to follow in the future.

Free Weekend, Game Pass and Future

With Season 3, Battlefield 2042 will finally enter Game Pass or EA Play. There will also be a free weekend on all platforms where you can give the current version of the multiplayer shooter another chance. We have recorded all the information about this for you in a separate news item.

By the way, Season 3 isn’t the end of Battlefield 2042 yet. It was known so far that there will definitely be a Season 4, but it goes even further. DICE announced that they have already started work on content that will be released after Season 4.
