NetheRealm Studio, Warner Bros. and Rocksteady pay tribute to Kelvin Conroy

Kevin Conroy, voice actor who gave life to Batman in the series, dies at 66

Following the passing of voice actor Kevin Conroy recently, several studios who worked with him have paid tribute, including the team behind the Batman: Arkham series. Kevin Conroy died Thursday at the age of 66 after a battle with bowel cancer.

The legendary actor was primarily known for his work voicing Batman in animation, video games, and even some live-action parts. Conroy helped give Batman a very distinctive voice in Batman: The Animated Series, making him both fierce and mythical, but also deeply human. His work was so iconic, much like Mark Hamill’s Joker, that he would go on to voice Batman for decades in many other projects, including the critically acclaimed Arkham series.

In 2009, developer Rocksteady released Batman: Arkham Asylum with Kevin Conroy reprising his role and changed superhero video games forever. It was a pivotal piece of Batman media and the two sequels Conroy would star in would only up the ante.

For their part, Ed Boon, creator of Injustice and Mortal Kombat, and Warner Bros. Games offered a social media tribute to the actor with Rocksteady calling Conroy “our Dark Knight” and noting his impact. Boon echoed these thoughts, noting how his voice defined Batman for many. Warner Bros. Games also highlighted his work on numerous Batman games beyond the Arkham and Injustice franchises.
