God of War Ragnarok ending explained

War rages in Asgard

Kratos, Atreus, Freya and Co. manage to Alliance with many worlds to build together to war against Asgard to pull and stop Odin for good. A huge battle has broken out in front of the wall of Asgard and Kratos and Atreus continue to fight their way up the front line. On the battlefield, allies fight back like that gigantic Surtr, the World Serpent, Fenrir and warriors of various races like the Vanen, the Valkyries or the Albs together against Thor and the Asgardians.

Kratos scores Thor and manages to bring him to his senses after a difficult struggle and convince him to be better for the sake of their children. Thor then refuses to continue to obey Odin’s orders and is subsequently killed by the Allfather.

Odin’s fate

It flares up final fight against Odin, where Kratos, Atreus, and Freya join forces. Together they manage to hunt down the Allfather. Atreus destroys the mask and destroys Odin’s chance to gain infinite knowledge.

After the fight, Atreus offers Odin the last chance to retreat, but Odin says he will never give up. Atreus then uses his Jotnar magic and encloses Odin’s soul in one of his marbles a. This is the same spell he used earlier in the game to separate Fenrir’s soul from his body when he died.

This answers the question of who was on the mural in Jötunheim: Do you remember the last mural from the finale of the predecessor? That showed Atreus with a man on the ground in front of him – with whorls connecting the two. Many thought the man was Kratos, who was dying. But it is in truth Odinwhich Atreus holds in his hands and his soul whispers away.

Odin’s soul is sealed, but none of those present dare to decide about Odin’s life and death. Yet Sindri smashes the marble with his hammer, killing Odin once and for all and avenging his brother’s death.

As Surtr threatens, quite destroying Asgard with his swordsacrifices himself Freyr, so that she can leave the group of Asgard alive. Atreus is hastily carried away by his father before waking up in Midgard. Asgard was completely destroyed. Atreus wants to say goodbye to everyone, including his father.

Kratos and Atreus go their separate ways

Angrboda leads Atreus and Kratos to one hidden shrine. A shrine of Atreus created by Faye, showing the events as they really happened, contrary to prophecy. It turns out that faye had destroyed the mural from the finale of the predecessor, dwith Kratos and Atreus not knowing their fate. Because they should forge their own destiny, go their own way.

Atreus confesses to his father that there is still more giants there and he wants to find his people. However, he has to do this alone. Kratos is visibly proudwhat became of Atreus and they survived because of his choices. Kratos now sees his son as ready.

This is the game’s biggest goosebump moment: Kratos and Atreus say goodbye to each other. “Loki will go, Atreus will stay,” Kratos says to his son before a last hug follows and the two henceforth go separate ways. Kratos will always keep his son Atreus in his heart.

So the way would be open for sequels: Both Kratos and Atreus survived but are now going their separate ways. Thus, a possible sequel to “God of War Ragnarök” could still have Kratos as the protagonist and play in a completely different world – without Atreus then. As for the son: Sony Santa Monica is also keeping the door open for a spin-off with Atreus. So will we see more of the young fighter?

A Beloved God of War: The Secret Mural of Kratos

After saying goodbye to Atreus, there is a scene that probably raises the most questions: The mural has one back. Kratos discovers another secret mural that his voyage from Greece to Midgard indicates. The last picture shows the god of war in his spartan shape. But he’s holding it in his hand Leviathan Axe.

What does the last picture mean? It shows one mixture from what Kratos was and who he has become. His past can never put Kratos down (Spartan appearance), but he can choose who he will be (axe). He is now become a god to be worshiped and loved. When asked what he saw, he replies: A path he never imagined.

There is another secret ending

Freya rejoins Kratos from now on. There’s a lot to rebuild and experience in God of War Ragnarök. Now you can devote yourself to the remaining collectibles and favors. But there is also one secret ending to see. Everything is there in one separate guide.
