Kojima Productions: Hideo Kojima probably wants to make films and music himself

Hideo Kojima has long been one of the most well-known people in the video game industry, with many big titles to his credit. A film could also be added in the future.

At least that’s what he recently suggested in a conversation on the sidelines of the Japanese Anan Awards, as Famitsu reports (via VGC). There he was honored in the culture category for his work on Death Stranding. At the event, he also hinted that all fields are linked in the digital world.

Hideo Kojima still has big plans

For this reason, as he further explained, he could imagine expanding his own field of activity: “That’s why I would like to expand from games to fields like film and music,” says Kojima.

He did not go into any further detail. So far, however, there has not been a public statement about his intention to make music himself. It’s no secret that he has a soft spot for films – after all, he himself writes in his Twitter bio that 70 percent of his body is made up of films.

Diverse projects at Kojima Productions

Music and film played a prominent role in Kojima’s previous works and influenced them significantly. Cutscenes are often longer than average and if you think back to Death Stranding, for example, you know that a well-used selection of songs can make a significant contribution to the gaming experience in a Kojima game.

A year ago it was announced that his own studio, Kojima Productions, would be putting out feelers more towards film, TV and music. However, the direct involvement of the famous game designer was not entirely foreseeable at the time. In what capacity and when he will be there at all is still unknown – after all, he is not only working on Death Stranding 2, but also on a new project with Microsoft.
