Anno 1800: That's in the DLC "Rise of the New World"

The developers of Anno 1800 have presented DLC 12. “Rise of the New World” is the final DLC of Season Pass 4. As the name suggests, the DLC introduces a new tier of residents to the New World – the Artistas. Of course, they bring with them new needs that need to be satisfied. As soon as you have reached 1,000 Obreros in one of your cities, you can upgrade an Obrera house to attract the first Artistas to the island. This new residence accommodates up to 40 Artistas, or 85 with lifestyle needs fully met. Once you’ve lured the first Artistas onto your island, you’ll also have a new building available to house them in the hacienda quarters as well, which then sets a bright pop of color amidst the warm tones of the New World. The Artistas Hacienda Quarter is home to 80 Artistas, almost twice the number of residents as its regular counterpart, but with all the lifestyle needs, that brings it up to 165. With Airborne, we introduced Lifestyle Constraints, additional goods and resources that you can provide to your Dwellers. They work like normal needs, but are completely optional. When met, lifestyle needs grant bonuses and additional dwellers. Also, they are purely useful and do not increase the consumption of your dwellers’ basic needs. Once unlocked, Lifestyle Needs are disabled by default: you must first enable them manually.

With DLC 12 we’re not only adding some extra lifestyle needs, we’re also adjusting them slightly. More on that in the release notes.

The new level introduces electricity to the New World. Nothing changes in their function: electricity is generated with extracted oil that reaches investors on the islands. Once powered, every factory and production building will receive a productivity boost. When it comes to New World farms, there’s something else that adds to the increase: the farms’ pastures produce bonus goods. This is the case with Cattle Pastures, which produce Milk, while Alpaca Pastures produce Saltpeter as a bonus commodity. The developers are still keeping a secret about the island of Manola, which is supposed to be another option for getting electricity to the New World.

One of the new goods is… soccer balls! The leather from the Nandu farm is processed into round bolt balls in factories. And it looks like the monument in the new DLC is a soccer field. More on that on the second page. Mezcal is a traditional drink served in the Mezcal bar and very popular with the artistas. This requires orchards for citrus trees, sugar cane plantations and herbs from the colorful herb gardens. Reaching 900 Artistas unlocks a new recipe: Jalea, a gourmet dish made from calamari, which in turn is produced by the calamari fishery. When you reach 1,800 Artistas, a refreshing product will be available: Ice Cream! Being a dairy product, ice cream requires milk, which is now produced on cattle farm pastures as an additional good when powered.

As we mentioned earlier, Artistas have pretty exquisite taste when it comes to their needs. This includes Perfume, which is made by the Perfume Blender: to get the perfect scent for the Artistas’ refined taste, you need Orchids, Coconut Oil, and Ethanol. In addition, the Artistas demand fans to combat the warmth of the New World. Two new factories are introduced with this new product: the Cable Factory and the Motor Assembly Plant.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the first motorized scooters began to appear around the world. Along with the fans, the electric scooters represent the most complex product required by Artistas: from the mechanical parts such as cables and motors to the pigments needed to create the wonderful different paints for the scooters.

And because all the worldly frippery isn’t enough, the artistas also thirst for entertainment. Her hobbies include spending time in the cinema when they are not practicing dancing at the samba school. In order for the cinema to work, you have to produce roll film. The recipe for this can be found in the chemical factory of the New World, a multi-factory that you already know from “Reisezeit”. On the other hand, the samba school requires you to craft colorful costumes using cotton, pigments, and nandu feathers, which are produced in the nandu farms when the farm is powered.
