New MMORPG Blue Protocol reveals many new details – everything about release, classes and gameplay

Blue Protocol Heavy Smasher

Blue Protocol is eagerly awaited by many players because it will be a theme park MMORPG with a focus on PvE and a nice graphic style. More and more new information is currently being shared that we have collected from MeinMMO in this overview.

What is Blue Protocol exactly? Blue Protocol is being developed by Bandai Namco and promises a gripping and fully voiced story. In it you travel about 1,000 years into the past to prevent a great catastrophe and save the world.

  • There will be 5 different classes to choose from.
  • The game relies heavily on story and PvE. As of now, there will be no PvP at all.
  • The combat system is very action-packed.
  • The game world is divided into zones, similar to Guild Wars 2. There should be room for around 40 players in each zone, and up to 200 in cities.
  • There will be dungeons and raids in the endgame.
  • The MMORPG relies on colorful but pretty anime graphics.

The MMORPG is being developed in the Unreal Engine 4. In the article we explain in more detail how the game world is structured, what classes there are and of course when the release will take place.

Where does the information come from? Most info is from the latest developer stream (via YouTube), others come from the last beta, which took place at the end of 2020.

We have included the latest gameplay trailer from Japan here:

Blue Protocol – New Japanese trailer

Blue Protocol will be released in Japan in 2023, with a global release planned

Which payment model does Blue Protocol use?

In Japan, Blue Protocol is set to become Free2Play. What monetization looks like in the West is currently unknown.

Is Blue Protocol only coming to PS5 or Xbox Series X/S?

At release, the MMORPG should only appear for the PC. There are currently no plans for a console or mobile version.

game world and content

What is the focus of the game? Clearly on the PvE. The story should play an important role and is accompanied by cinematic cutscenes. You follow various quests that bring you closer to the story and also get a number of side quests that you can complete.

However, Blue Protocol does without life skills at the start. There will be no typical activities such as logging, stone chopping or fishing. However, there will be manufacturing professions, because in Blue Protocol you have to craft your own equipment.

In addition, the MMORPG dispenses with equipment as drops. Instead, you get raw materials that are important for crafting.

Then what is there to do? In the endgame you can mainly devote yourself to dungeons and raids. The dungeons scale with the number of players. They should be experienced both alone and in a group of up to 6 players.

How exactly the raids will turn out is not yet known, but the developers are said to be enthusiastic about the system in Final Fantasy XIV.

In order to provide replay value and a little competition between players, there will be rankings for the dungeons and raids.

What is the combat system like? Blue Protocol’s combat system is very action-packed. You must actively target targets, dodge enemy attacks, and have few but powerful skills.

However, the combat system in the beta had some problems. That’s why the developers have revised it significantly in the last few months:

  • Hit feedback has been redesigned and improved. Previously, it was not clear whether an ability hit or not.
  • Evasion and movement became more dynamic.
  • Some of the animations have been adjusted to provide more variety.

There is also a double jump that can be used to activate abilities to perform a power attack.

You can dodge either by placing it on a key or by double-pressing the direction keys.

This excerpt from the official live stream gives you an insight into the combat system:

Blue Protocol – Battle gameplay

How about PvP? In Blue Protocol there should be no PvP at the start, not even a duel function among friends.

What else do we know about the game content?

  • There will be a pet system, the Imajinns. You summon these creatures and they then support you in the fights with special abilities. Each Imajinn has different skills and you have to decide which of the creatures you want to take with you on the adventures.
  • The character editor was already very detailed in the beta and offered many sliders for adjustments.
  • There will be mounts.
  • Players should be able to create wish lists with materials so as not to lose track.
  • There will be an emote for playing rock-paper-scissors.
  • There will be no housing feature for the release, but there is a possibility that it will be implemented later.

All about the five classes in Blue Protocol

What do we know about the classes? Blue Protocol relies on a Holy Trinity. One class can take on the role of tank and there’s a healer who, surprisingly, is the archer and not the mage here.

The Aegis Fighter is a classic melee fighter with a sword and shield, but focuses more on the defensive. So he has an aggro mechanic with which he can force enemies to attack him. He can also counter incoming attacks and then strike himself.

So the Aegis Fighter is a classic tank.

The Twin Striker is a classic damage dealer and also at home in close combat. He attacks quickly and precisely with his double ax and uses a combo system. As more damage is dealt, a gauge fills up. This then activates an ultimate attack.

In addition, the “Party Chain” was introduced after the beta. Simply put, this is a combo system that applies to the entire group. As the number of combos increases, the attacks become stronger and above a certain number the entire group receives buffs.

This is what it looks like when you attack with the Twink Striker. The combo attacks then stack in the top left.

The Blast Archer is a ranged fighter with a bow, but at the same time has healing abilities. In your build you have two options: the healer’s way or the damage dealer’s way.

As a DD, however, you have to shoot specifically for weak points in the opponent, which is usually the head.

The Spell Caster is a mage and is said to be the most difficult class in the game. Its focus is on damage, which increases as the distance between the Spell Caster and the enemy increases. In his resource, he relies on mana, which regenerates slowly. Correct use should also be important here.

The Heavy Smasher is the newest class in the game. He uses a hammer, which can be used both in melee combat and as a type of firearm. Gameplay shows that the class can charge shots, deal damage with swingers, and use powerful jump attacks.

The Heavy Smasher also uses his hammer as a firearm.
