Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners update and anime give CD Projekt record numbers

Countless bugs, severe performance problems and bans from many an online store: the release of Cyberpunk 2077 was quite a disaster. CD Projekt Red recovered from this a good two years later.

This is at least from the current financial report of the Polish studio. It states that from a purely financial point of view, the past quarter was “the best third quarter in our entire history”. Thanks go to Cyberpunk 2077 and the anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners impacted sales

The Netflix series, in combination with update 1.6, ensured that Cyberpunk 2077 had a real comeback in the past few weeks. In the meantime, the role-playing game has sold over 20 million copies and was able to attract over a million players to Night City every day for four weeks at a time.

This makes for strong figures: In the third quarter, the CD Projekt Group achieved sales equivalent to around EUR 52.3 million. The net profit is around 21 million euros. CD Projekt summarizes the results in the financial report:

“A significant increase in Group revenue in Q3 2022 compared to the reference period is mainly due to the good response to Cyberpunk Edgerunner Update 1.6, which preceded the release of the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix.”

The future of CD Projekt

Naturally, both the company and the investors are pleased with the strong result. But there is more to come at CD Projekt in the future, because the development studio has big plans for the near and distant future.

First of all, the release of the next-gen update of The Witcher 3 is imminent, which will be released on December 14th. Then it goes on with Cyberpunk 2077, because in 2023 the single-player expansion Phantom Liberty is to be published. In addition, work has also begun on a sequel to the role-playing game.

But that’s not all, because CD Projekt Red itself is also working on a new trilogy for The Witcher. Additionally, a remake of the first The Witcher game is also in development at developer Fool’s Theory.
