D-Link Mydlink Home: These smart home devices will soon become useless

More and more apartments and houses are equipped with networked devices to make everyday life easier and save money. For example, the lighting can be intelligently controlled with motion sensors so that it is only activated when someone passes by. The Taiwanese manufacturer D-Link has now announced its services on December 30, 2022 Discontinue Mydlink Home and Mydlink Baby Monitor. All D-Link products that rely on one of the two cloud services then no longer have an Internet connection.

These D-Link products are affected

Finally, the two D-Link apps can no longer be downloaded from the Google Playstore and the Apple App Store. In addition, registration is no longer possible. All functions of the apps should then no longer be usable. According to the manufacturer, the affected products are no longer officially sold, but there may still be residual stocks at retailers. The following D-Link products are affected: DCS-935LH, DCS-8200LH, DCS-5010L, DCS-5025L, DCS-935L, DSP-W110, DSP-W215, DSP-W115, DCH-S150, DCH-S160, DCH -G020, DCH-Z510, DCH-Z112, DCH-G022, DCH-Z122, DCH-Z110, DCH-S220, DCH-Z120 and DCH-Z310.

In addition, the baby cameras DCS-700L, DCS-800L, DCS-820L, DCS-825L, DCS-850L and DCS-855L are no longer supported. Users of the Mydlink Lite or Mydlink+ apps are not affected. Anyone who recently bought one of the smart home devices mentioned should contact the manufacturer’s customer service.

In order to prevent such scenarios as far as possible in the future, the manufacturer-independent Matter standard has been in place since October 2022. Since October 4, 2022, Matter has been available as a license-free standard based on open source code in version 1.0 for smart speakers and lighting, among other things; further smart device categories will follow in future Matter versions. Incidentally, Amazon has already announced software updates from December to include Echo speakers and Echo Show to make it matter-compatible. For the affected D-Link users, however, there will be no update.
