Dragons instead of afterlife – This makes Wow Dragonflight better than Shadowlands

WoW Harbinger's Illidan

Dragonflight is here and many fans of Wowwho are still undecided are wondering: Is the new addon worth it and what will be better now compared to Shadowlands?

That improves with Dragonflight

Shadowlands, the recently passed addon to WoW, is now history and from now on it’s off to the new Dragon Islands in Dragonflight. But not only the setting changes, which changes from gloomy otherworldly worlds to a colorful tropical island. Dragonflight also brings a lot of improvements to the game systems. You will find out the most important ones in the following paragraphs.

Borrowed Power is eliminated

What was Borrowed Power? This term means something like “borrowed power” and first came into play with Legion. There you could get a legendary artifact weapon and level it up further. The idea behind it was that you should feel like a powerful superhero who could, for example, wield the famous warglaives of Illidan.

But the power was only borrowed and you had to return the artifact at the end of the expansion. In the other addons it went on and on. There were various extremely strong items that you were allowed to level up, and at the end of the respective expansion it was over again.

This went against the grain for many players and they wished for an end to the massive grind for more power, which ultimately was for nothing. The developers decided differently for Dragonflight and canceled the controversial feature. So you won’t get any legendary dragon items in Dragonflight that you then have to grind up for hours.

Rather, it’s now just regular gear and a whole new talent system. So you can just get started and gamble immediately instead of forever leveling up your borrowed equipment. There is more information about the talent system in the next paragraph.

Legion had special artifact weapons, like the Blades of Illidan.

Finally talent trees again

This changes with the talents: The Borrowed Power mentioned above was also a kind of replacement for a talent system. Because the classic talent trees were deleted with Mists of Pandaria and replaced by a linear system that gave you a new feature every few levels. With Dragonflight, the classic system of talent trees is coming back, but in a revised, modern version.

Each class specialization now has two talent trees. One applies to the class itself, the other to the selected variant. Each level gives you points that you can invest as you see fit.

  • The tree for your class specialization enhances the core abilities of each class variant. So you can improve damage of certain actions or get more protection against specific effects
  • The Class Tree is intended for additional perks that allow you to further customize your character to suit your playstyle.

So instead of relying on various super items for each class, which after a long grind are eventually taken away from you as part of Borrowed Power, you finally get concrete talents again with which you can work out your perfect build to your heart’s content.

Crafting is really strong again

This changes in crafting: Crafts and professions were properly turned inside out. This starts with the fact that you can now specialize further. In this way, a blacksmith can concentrate on certain types of items and then create them particularly strongly. There are also different levels of quality. This is how you can expand your offer. The best crafting items can compete with the loot from top raids. It is therefore worthwhile to live your professions properly.

Another reason to get involved as a craftsman: You can now place orders for craftsmen with an NPC. Say what you would like and what your price expectations are. Hard-working crafters then get these orders and build you the stuff you want.

As a craftsman, you can get money quickly and easily, and customers can also quickly get their powerful gear from the craftsmen. A win-win situation that really boosts crafting.
