Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting a Berlin track and I can smell it

In early December, Nintendo released the third DLC wave of the Booster Track Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Then we can finally dash over new courses again, most of which are of course new editions of older slopes. I had already said in another column that I am particularly looking forward to two of them, but in this article I would like to go into another course, which I think is quite special.

It’s about the Berlin route, which will be part of the Moon Cup and which some of you may already know from the mobile title Mario Kart Tour. And even if the “new” factor is rather low, I still think it’s pretty crazy to be able to race through the German capital in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the future. Because anyone who has ever been to Berlin will rediscover many well-known sights along the course.

He loves soccer and billiards and is constantly expanding his board game collection. Incidentally, it has nothing to do with the beer brand of the same name. Unfortunately.

This goes from the Brandenburg Gate to the Red Town Hall to the Berlin Wall or the main train station. And because I’ve been to all of these places, the Berlin track in Mario Kart feels closer, more familiar than what I’m used to from fun racers. And then in places even so much that I can almost smell them, as mentioned in the title.

One detail of the track stinks in reality

Then: At least one variant of the Berlin route in Mario Kart leads over or past the prominent Oberbaum Bridge. And since it’s in the immediate vicinity of Webedia’s Berlin office, I’m relatively familiar with the bridge. Not as much as my direct colleagues in Berlin, but so much that whenever I see this building, I immediately get the acrid smell of urine in my nose, which you can’t actually avoid on the bridge. So a rather unsightly detail of a visually impressive building.

In the trailer for the third wave of the Route Booster Pass, you can already spot the Oberbaum Bridge.

More on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:

Of course, I’m aware that this cannot be represented in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as we all know that olfactory television doesn’t exist yet. And even if it had, Nintendo would probably have done the devil and put the Oberbaum Bridge into the game in such a realistic way. But in general, this fact and this connection shows me that the Berlin route will be something extraordinary, at least for me. Simply because I connect many places from it with real sensory impressions.

What do you think of the “real” tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?
