Players wait a month in Destiny 2 for the story ending of a season – now they’ve had enough

Destiny 2: Xur Today – Location and Offer on 10/07

With its Seasons, Destiny 2 offers a series-like narrative that continues every week. However, there is one mechanic that players don’t like at all.

What is the problem? Destiny 2 offers deep story moments and exciting cinematics that are revealed week after week. Because of this, many Guardians log in weekly just to get more info on how events are progressing.

So far so good, but since the switch to the Season Pass there has been a serious disadvantage and that is the narration of the story end of each season. This is currently always revealed a week before the start of a new season. It wouldn’t be that dramatic if players didn’t have to wait almost a month for it at this point.

This upsets many gamers, and even Paul Tassi of Forbes notes that it leaves a gaping gap in the story, like waiting a month to watch the end of a movie.

New season model destroys the excitement of the story

What are the players saying? You are not happy about it. Basically, this not only slows down the desire for the story, but also reduces the tension, since many things fall through this gap in the story.

Players want to experience the story as a whole

Paul Tassi also notes that this system means that neither new teasers nor advertising for new seasons can take place, as these would spoil the story in Destiny 2. So it’s very counterproductive and doesn’t create any hype about upcoming content that players could look forward to.

That’s what the users think on twitter the following about the current story system:

  • @GryphxRG “Sick of the current Season model and the last bit we’re being fed”
  • @KevlarNexus020 “Honestly, I’m really not a fan of ‘We’ll wait until the hour before the new season release to reveal it’. For example, can I have some hype during the long gap during the season? […]”
  • @Marconius425 “It’s like Bungie is actively trying to kill interest in the game.”
  • @LawdStrudel “The “announcing the new season an hour before reset” crap only works during a showcase or something, not year-round.”

Will anything change in the season system? Not for now. The team is only active with teasers and minor spoilers in major DLC showcases. No changes are planned for Seasons. Additionally, the large gap in the story allows players to focus on other things in Destiny 2 or other games, while still feeling the urge to log into the loot shooter from time to time for updates.

It remains to be seen whether Bungie will follow through with this system or change a few things, because many players are leaving Destiny 2 right now and one YouTuber thinks it’s going to get worse:
