Cyberpunk 2077: GOTY Release 2023, Sequel to follow

from Yusuf Hatic
After CD Projekt Red ironed out the buggy release of Cyberpunk 2077, the focus is on the future of the franchise. A GOTY edition should come in 2023 before a sequel is to be worked on afterwards.

CD Projekt Red was able to record last autumn as a complete success, at least with regard to Cyberpunk 2077. In addition to new player numbers records – at times more than a million players were out and about in Night City at the same time – and breaking through the magical 90 percent mark of positive Steam ratings, the focus is now on future plans for Cyberpunk 2077.

These include not only the release of the Phantom Liberty DLC planned for 2023 and a “substantial update”, as CEO Adam Kicinski said an investor meeting according to the Insider Gaming portal. After the release of the additional content, a Game of the Year Edition for Cyberpunk 2077

As Kicinski explains, this project is “the natural order of things”. Finally, CDPR also carried out a similar process with The Witcher 3, in which a Game of the Year Edition was also released after the two expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which offers the complete Witcher 3 experience. Accordingly, one can expect the same procedure with Cyberpunk 2077.

Kicinski also commented on the planned Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. As soon as the Phantom Liberty expansion has been released, CDPR will start working on the sequel – this initially includes a phase in which the development team works on various concepts before going into pre-production. All that is known so far is that the sequel will be developed under the code name Project Orion.
