Originally, CD Projekt RED also had ambitions for a standalone multiplayer game in Night City. These plans were initially put on hold. In an interview with Eurogamer gave now Philip WeberSenior Quest Designer and Coordinator Cyberpunk 2077 (in the test, grade 10.0) admitted relatively openly that this was related to the title’s problems at launch:

We had to [nach dem Launch] see exactly where our priorities lie for cyberpunk. The priority was that the main experience should work well for all people. And basically, this shift in priorities meant that other R&D projects had to go. With Cyberpunk we wanted to do a lot of things at the same time and we really needed to focus.

However, multiplayer remains of general interest to CD Projekt. This is also one of the various projects announced by the Polish company Witchergame with the working title Sirius, which aims to combine single and multiplayer. Weber is now the narrative director for Project Polaris, which is set to launch a new trilogy of Witcher RPGs.
