Overwatch 2 starts Season 2, brings new heroes and addresses one of the biggest criticisms

Overwatch 2 Season 2 launches on Tuesday, December 6th, 2022 and will bring new content such as the Ramattra tank and the Shambali Monastery map. Blizzard is also addressing one of the biggest criticisms of the community with Season 2.

What does Season 2 contain? Season 2’s new content includes the new tank “Ramattra” and the new map “Shambal Monastery”. On top of that, Blizzard announced the return of the Rialto card. However, the maps “Hollywood” and “Watchpoint: Gibraltar” have been removed from the map rotation.

In addition to a change in the map pool, balancing adjustments for Sojourn and Doomfist as well as Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy and Symmetra are to follow in Season 2 (via overwatch.blizzard.com)

In October there were also initial considerations about nerfing Genji, who was one of the most popular heroes with Sojourn shortly after the shooter was released.

Ramattra benefits from two distinct forms

What can the new hero do? The new hero of Overwatch 2 is called Ramattra and he will be a tank. According to Blizzard, he should be characterized by aggressive skills and a dominant style of play.

Rammatra is armed with a staff called the Void Accelerator, which has a primary and secondary fire mode.

  • In primary fire mode, Ramattra shoots nanites that fire at high speed and do not suffer damage over range (suitable for ranged combat.)
  • the secondary ability creates a temporary barrier that Ramattra places on the ground using a line

In addition, Ramattra gains the ability to transform. The tank then switches to the so-called nemesis form, in which the tank grows, increases its armor value and gets new weapons. Nemsis Form lasts 8 seconds after activation.

  • With the Overpower ability, Ramattra deals damage that hits all enemies in range
  • With Block, Ramattra raises his arms in front of his face, reducing frontal damage. However, the ability, which has no cooldown, also reduces the tank’s movement speed and does not protect against damage from behind.

In addition, the tank has the Ravenous Vortex ability available in both forms. This is a ball of nanites that slows, knocks down and damages enemies.

The crowning glory of Ramattra’s loadout is his Ultimate Annihilation. Upon activation, Ramattra instantly enters Nemesis Form and is surrounded by a swarm of energy, similar to Zenyatta’s Transcendent ultimate. However, this does not have a healing effect like Zenyatta’s Transcendence, but instead continuously damages all enemies within range.

Blizzard is making adjustments to unlocking new heroes

What criticism is Blizzard addressing? Even before the release of the shooter, Blizzard managed to upset some fans. The developer studio changed how you unlock heroes in Overwatch 2.

So now players must either purchase the Battle Pass to get instant access or reach a certain level in the free version of the pass.

What did Blizzard change? For Season 2, Blizzard is changing the level required to unlock a hero. While players had to reach level 55 for Kiriko in Season 1, only 45 is required for Ramattra.

That sounds like a rather small concession at first, but it reduces the grind to a new hero by a few hours of playtime.

By the way, you unlock the heroine Kiriko, introduced in the previous season, in Season 2 through challenges.

Another topic that has caused quite a stir in the community is skin pricing. Some players even miss the loot boxes from the first part.
