Strategy Expert Slitherine with Next Show: Update on Stargate, Starship Troopers, Master of Magic [Update]

Original article from 05/13/2022: All fans of strategy games should know the English developer and publisher Slitherine. Stargate: Timekeepers, Starship Troopers: Terran Command and Master of Magic are currently in the works, but with Field of Glory: Kingdoms and Ancient Arenas: Chariots there are two new titles that have only just been announced.

Starship Troopers-Terran Command

Starship Troopers – Terran Command should have been released long ago, the “final” release date is still June 16, 2022. As one of the last measures before release, new gameplay material was shown. In the 30+ minute video, fans can get a glimpse of Perimeter – a mission that takes place at the end of the third act. Also featured were some never-before-seen units from the Federation and Arachnid factions.

Based on the 1997 sci-fi film of the same name, Starship Troopers: Terran Command puts the player in the middle of the great conflict between humans and bugs. The campaign for the RTS is set to feature 21 missions in which mobile infantry forces go to war against the Bugs on planets such as the Bug homeland of Klendathu and the desert planet of Kwalasha. A multiplayer mode is not planned – but a skirmish mode with special challenges.

Stargate: Timekeepers

Slitherine’s next RTS, Stargate: Timekeepers, doesn’t have a release date yet. At the end of 2021, gameplay was shown for the first time, and now there is again around 30 minutes of material. “In Plain Site” is a new mission from the story-driven Stargate: Timekeepers. A sacrificial ritual is imminent in the mission. Engineer Sam Watson and sniper Max Bolton make a covert entry into the Jaffa village trying to stop the ceremony.

Story-wise, Stargate: Timekeepers deviates from the end of Season 7 of the Stargate SG-1 main storyline to develop its own story spanning 14 missions. According to the developers, Stargate: Timekeepers is a game of choice – the adventure offers multiple possibilities: you can use technology from other worlds, travel back in time and replay the missions to shape the fate of your heroes.

Master of Magic

Just over a year ago, the remake of Microprose’s 1994 classic, Master of Magic, was announced. The developers of MuHa Games (Thea: The Awakening and Thea 2: The Shattering) are responsible for the contemporary new edition, the release is still scheduled for 2022. The game was presented in its entirety for the first time at the Home of Wargamers event. It also showed the available wizards, city management, and turn-based combat.

In Master of Magic Remake, you take on the role of one of 14 unique wizards as they compete to rule the worlds of Arcanus and Myrror. You choose from various schools of magic and fantasy races, command them and then send them out to gain influence and power. There are armies of elves, dragons, dwarves, orcs, etc. Combat is turn-based, with magic favoring the outcome. Over 200 spells can be researched. The previous screenshots look quite consistent.

Ancient Arenas: Chariots and Field of Glory: Kingdoms

In addition, two new games were shown for the first time. Ancient Arenas: Chariots is all about one of the most grueling and dangerous sports of ancient Rome: Chariots is a chariot racing simulator coming soon to PC. If this sounds familiar, the game is considered the spiritual successor to 2014’s Qvadriga. In the turn-based game, players can upgrade their chariots, train their horses and ask favors from the gods for the best chance of victory.

Game number 2 is Field of Glory: Kingdoms. The massive Field of Glory series expands with a new title from developer AGEOD, coming shortly after the Great Schism of 1054 and spans more than two centuries of epic European, African and Middle Eastern history. In the role of an all-powerful ruler, players can engage in “highly explosive” battles with FOG Medieval’s turn-based system.
