The first-party games for Microsoft’s current consoles around the Xbox Series X and S are becoming more expensive. It is still unclear whether PC games will also be affected by the price increase.
Games for the Xbox Series X/S and the direct predecessor Xbox One have so far asked to pay 60 US dollars – this will be over in the future, as the manufacturer Microsoft has explained to the IGN portal. The so-called first-party games are to be priced at 70 US dollars from 2023.
The new price for the Xbox games refers to the US market – in this country buyers of Xbox games usually already pay 70 euros. It is still unclear how the increase will affect the German market – Microsoft itself says that the prices can also differ from region to region.
The increased costs reflect the content, scope and technical complexity of these, as a Microsoft spokesman explains, according to IGN. After all, all games released by the developer studios belonging to Xbox Game Studios should still appear on the release day in Microsoft Game Pass. It has not yet been confirmed whether this is also included in the price development.
The first games set to sell for $70 as part of the adjusted price will be Forza Motorsport and summer 2023 space RPG Starfield. As part of the “Xbox & Bethesda Showcase” in June 2022, Microsoft announced that at least 25 games were in development – it can be assumed that they will all be awarded the new prize.
However, Microsoft itself is not the only company that has announced a price increase for its games in recent weeks. Publishers such as Ubisoft or Take-Two also want to sell their games for a higher price from next year – according to IGN, the direct competition from Sony is considering increasing the price on an even larger scale.
