The Swedish manufacturer of computer accessories Fractal Design has new PC cases in its range that are designed to support Mini-ITX, Micro-ATX and ATX mainboards. The natural design stands out, because the housing comes with an air-permeable front made of either oak or walnut wood.

Anyone who has had enough of flashy RGB lighting around the PC case and wants to give their eyes a calm and natural appearance may find a suitable model from the manufacturer Fractal Design with the newly introduced North series. Fractal has provided its new ATX case with a real wood front and speaks of the use of natural materials.

Fractal Design North: variants, specifications and availability

The Fractal Design North case comes in two editions: the Chalk White version, which features an oak wood front with silver design accents, and the Charcoal Black version with a walnut wood front and brass-colored design accents. The case supports mainboards in the form factors ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX, while there should be space for graphics cards up to 355 mm in length or for graphics cards up to 300 mm in length including a 360 mm front radiator.

The front, the side parts and the top panel should also be easy to remove using a strap made of synthetic leather. There are two storage mounts for drives, each of which should be able to hold a 3.5-inch and a 2.5-inch drive at the same time. Two Aspect 140mm PWM fans are also pre-installed in the North case. On the connection side, the housing offers one USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C, two USB 3.0 and connections for microphone and headphones. According to Fractal Design, there is room for a total of eight 120 mm and six 140 mm fans in the case, in the following constellations:

  • Front: 3x120mm, 2x140mm
  • Top: 2 x 120mm, 2 x 140mm
  • Rear: 1 x 120mm
  • Side (Mesh): 2 x 120mm, 2 x 140mm

The North case from Fractal Design is also said to have seven expansion slots and is not only available with two different types of wood, but also with either a mesh side panel or a tempered glass side panel. The dimensions of the Fractal Design North should be 447 x 215 x 469 mm (L x W x H) with a weight of 7.6 kg (Mesh) or 7.7 kg (TG). According to the manufacturer, the maximum dimensions for the power supply are 255 mm and for the CPU cooler 170 mm.
