Microsoft: Xbox controller with LCD display patented

Microsoft has filed a patent for a new Xbox controller with an LCD display.

Will Xbox controllers have a small screen in the future? At least Microsoft has now filed a patent for such a controller.

According to the drawings, the LCD screen is at the top center of the controller, right where the Xbox Guide button is currently located. The button moves further down to make room for the new screen.

As the drawings show, the display shows information through a connection to a local device, such as an Xbox console, but also to a cloud-based system.

The patent that has been filed does not reveal what further use the screen is supposed to have for the player.

Microsoft will certainly be experimenting with the new Xbox controller with a screen. It remains to be seen whether it will then also be ready for the market.
