Indie developer advises against buying his game because of trouble with the publisher

from Alexander Pensler
The developer of the indie title The Outbound Ghost advises against buying his own game. He cites problems with the publisher as the reason for this, who in particular is said to have published the console versions of the game against his will. In its current state, the action RPG does not meet the quality standards of the indie studio.

The Outbound Ghost by Conradical Games is an action role-playing game with clear borrowings from the Paper Mario game series. After a very successful Kickstarter campaign the game was released on September 20th this year for Steam and consoles. Now Conrad Grindheim, head of the three-strong team at Conradical Games, is asking not to buy his own game again or, if it has already been bought, to return it.

Differences with the publisher, self-release follows

According to the main developer, Conradical Games has parted ways with publisher Digerati, as Conrad Grindheim announced in a short YouTube video on December 8th. The indie developer even disabled sales on Steam after an unauthorized sale on Steam. In particular, the console versions of the title for Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One are said to be plagued by problems.

Conradical Games claims the publisher released an unfinished and unapproved version of the game against the developers’ wishes. Conrad Grindheim is already threatening legal action against Digerati and plans to self-publish The Outbound Ghost as a remastered version once the team regains the rights to the game.

Publisher Digerati is surprised by the behavior of the indie team

The publisher of The Outbound Ghost is puzzled by the behavior of the small independent studio. So says Sarah Alfieri, owner of Digerati and widow of the recently deceased founder Nick in a separate statement on Twitter: “Up until literally hours before the console launched, we had a cooperative and mutually agreeable working relationship with Conrad and we saw no sign of dissatisfaction on his part.” According to the head of Digerati, Grindheim even cited the sudden death of her husband as a reason for dismissal. It therefore remains to be seen how the situation around the indie game will develop. A demo of The Outbound Ghost is still standing available on Steam.
