8 things you didn’t know the Nintendo Switch could do

The Nintendo Switch is one of the most popular consoles. It offers some features that many gamers are not necessarily aware of. MeinMMO introduces you to almost a dozen in this article.

The Nintendo Switch also offers a number of interesting features apart from the normal functions. We present the most exciting features to you in our article.

Find lost Joy-Con

You just played on the Switch with friends or children and now you can’t find a Joy-Con anymore? There’s a simple trick to finding your controller again. However, the prerequisite is that the battery of your controller is still sufficiently charged.

To do this, start your switch and click on the controller icon. The next screen will show all of the controllers that are paired with the Switch. Tap on the controller icon of the controller that has disappeared and you want to find it. Now the missing controller should vibrate and you can find it faster.

Create a second account

What’s the point? Many games only offer you a single storage space per account. But if you want to create multiple saves, you can use a trick. Because if you create a second account, you can also save a game with this “user”. In total, you can create up to 8 user accounts on one switch.

The disadvantage, however, is that you need a Nintendo online subscription for each account if you also want to gamble online with other users. You should keep that in mind.

How to create a second account:

• Select “System Settings” from the HOME Menu.
• Scroll down to “Users” and select “Add User” and click “Next”.
• Select the icon you want for the account. Tap on “More Options” to access additional characters and backgrounds.
• Once you’ve decided on an image, enter a nickname. Select “OK”.
• You can then link the new user account to a Nintendo Account.

Use international shops

Some games on the Switch are blocked by regional lock. This way you cannot buy certain games in Germany. However, this lock can be circumvented comparatively easily.

To do this, go to the settings on your switch and scroll all the way down. Here you will find the menu item “Region.” Select the region of your choice here, confirm the terms and conditions and restart your console.

If you change the country of your account to Japan, for example, you will also have access to various exclusive demos that you cannot use with a German account.

Use your switch as a power bank for your cell phone

If you are out and about and forgot your power bank at home, you can use your switch to charge your cell phone. All you have to do is connect your phone to the USB-C port on your switch.

But note that the switch has significantly less battery capacity than a real power bank and is not a full replacement either. If that’s not enough for you, there is another useful gadget that you can use to significantly improve your Nintendo Switch.

Use PS5 and Xbox controllers on your switch

If you don’t feel like using a Joy-Con or Pro-Controller, you can also use other controllers on your switch.

To do this, connect an Xbox or PlayStation controller to your switch with a USB cable. In the best case, the controller should then already be recognized.

Connecting a PS5 controller to your switch via Bluetooth is not easy. Here you need a Bluetooth adapter. Such adapters usually cost between 15 and 20 euros and are then connected via the USB port of the docking station.

Configure airplane mode

With the airplane mode, a number of functions, such as Bluetooth or WLAN, are switched off on your switch. However, you can re-enable some features in airplane mode.

For example, despite flight mode, you can turn Bluetooth back on and continue to use your controller or Bluetooth headphones.

Combines multiple Switch screens into one

In some games it is possible to combine two display units into one. In Mario Party Superstars, for example, you can connect two displays and in this way have a larger playing area in multiplayer.

Your characters then move seamlessly from one screen to the next as you play, allowing you to double the playing area.

Change button assignment

What’s the point? If you have other consoles at home, it can happen that you accidentally press the wrong button on your switch.

The A, B, X, and Y buttons on the Switch are swapped with those on the Xbox controller. And this means that on the PS4 and PS5, for example, the X button on the DualShock or DualSense controller is the bottom of the four buttons, but on the switch it has the A button, which is on the right.

This is how you change the button assignment

• Select “System Settings” from the HOME Menu.
• Scroll down to Controllers and Sensors and select Change Button Assignments.
• Now you can choose the controller you want to edit. Then click on “Change” and you are already in the configuration of the buttons and can adapt them according to your wishes.
• Finally, confirm with “Done”.
