The system allows for the exchange of digital messages and open discussion via a server, which users dial into via a telephone line – the Internet in its later form did not exist at this time and these “mailboxes” are the simplest possibility of electronic communication Ways to communicate with multiple people at the same time. Just one month later, on February 16th, the CBBS was set up – and the first online forum was born.
