Tomb Raider: Amazon is said to be working on an entire series
Allegedly, Amazon is not only working on a new Tomb Raider game, but also on a series. The screenwriter and the producers have apparently already been decided, but many details are still missing.
After 2018 with Shadow of the Tomb Raider When the last game was released so far, there has been a lot going on in the Tomb Raider game series in recent months. Last May, Square Enix suddenly sold the development studios last involved and all Tomb Raider rights to the Swedish Embracer Group. The next surprise came in December when it was announced that Amazon would be involved in the development of the upcoming game. And now there is news again that is again related to Amazon.
Lara Croft as a series
This time it’s not about a new game, but about a first series of the game series. So far, Tomb Raider has “only” been made into a film: in 2001 and 2003 Lara Croft was played by Angelina Jolie, and in 2018 a film loosely based on the reboot was released, starring Alicia Vikander. A sequel was actually intended for this, but Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has not presented any plans for too long and therefore lost the rights to the series in 2022. This is where Amazon supposedly comes into play: According to the Hollywood Reporter website, the company has secured the rights to Tomb Raider and, as I said, wants to produce a series with it.
The first details about the production are apparently already certain. According to this, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is said to be the author and to direct production together with Ryan Andolina, Amanda Greenblatt and Dmitri M. Johnson. However, further details are not yet known, and nothing has been confirmed by Amazon or the Embracer Group anyway. Whether a corresponding series is actually planned is not entirely certain.

Corresponding plans would, at least in principle, fit Amazon. After all, the company is already involved in the development of the next Tomb Raider game, and new Prime Video exclusives should also be of interest to Amazon. On the other hand, the Hollywood Reporter’s report does not talk about streaming, but about a TV series. The overall picture is not really clear. Fans must therefore simply wait until there is official information.
