PS5 and PS4 software updates will be available globally today, GamersRD

We already have the Next-Gen settled and with availability of new consoles in stores. With the PS5 has managed to ship 32.1 million units worldwide, and the stock shortage finally coming to an end, sony projects a significant increase in console sales in the coming months and years. The company will, of course, expect a large number of existing users in the PlayStation ecosystem to make the jump from PS4 to PS5, but it seems that the latter is also attracting a lot of newcomers.

In his recent report quarterly, Sony revealed that nearly 30% of monthly active PS5 users did not own a PS4. “With the spread of PS5, new user acquisition is a progression,” the company wrote. By the way, the number of monthly active users also increased by 30% in the month of December, which is to be expected given the influx of new sales that consoles tend to see in the final weeks of each year.

Meanwhile, Sony also says that for users who migrated from PS4 to PS5, engagement metrics are “significantly higher” on the new console. This includes things like users’ PS Plus subscription rate, playtime, and average amount spent.

Since the release of the PS5, Sony has maintained active support for the PS4, with the vast majority of its first-party exclusives releasing as cross-gen titles, including God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7. With that being said, it looks like the company is starting to shift most of its focus to current-gen hardware. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2For example, it will launch exclusively for PS5 this fall, while Sony has also previously said that it will completely remove active support for PS4 by 2025 at the latest.
