Hogwarts Legacy: Are there problems on Steam? PC is more trouble than PS5
Unfortunately, the early start of Hogwarts Legacy on February 7, 2023 did not go smoothly for many buyers. In particular, the PC version of Avalanche Software’s open-world game has had and continues to have some problems.
Although the official launch of Hogwarts Legacy on February 10, 2023 is on the program, since yesterday, February 7, 2023, numerous hobby magicians with early access have been making the eponymous school and the enchanting surroundings unsafe. While Avalanche Software’s open-world game was able to break viewer records on Twitchthe early access phase did not go smoothly for many buyers of the deluxe edition.
Steam issues Tuesday night
About the most annoying problem report the colleagues from PC Games Hardware: Numerous players found that they could not launch the game after downloading and installing it on Steam. The play button could not be pressed. Others were annoyed that the purchased version was not displayed correctly in the library. The good news: the all-clear was given during the evening. The developers apparently applied a previously undocumented patch that was able to fix some of the problems.
Why only a few, you might ask? Well, the PC version unfortunately also reveals other technical construction sites that go beyond minor performance drops, graphic bugs or reloading objects (of which the PC Games colleagues report in their test of the PS5 version). Players and testers of the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy (buy now €59.99 ) complain that the number of frames displayed per second in gameplay phases, but also in in-game sequences, repeatedly falls to an unplayable level, even though the hardware used exceeds the requirements specified by the developers. There are also reports of regular crashes, some of which can even be triggered specifically (for example in the discussion area on Steam).
On the Game support page there is currently only one indication of a known problem: The game graphics can have blue and green color errors. This apparently only happens in high-contrast mode, which is intended for players with special visual impairments. The mode can be switched off via the accessibility options.
The technical problems of the PC version have so far had only a slight impact on press ratings. while the PS5 version of Hogwarts Legacy on Metacritis comes to an average of 86 points, the lands PC version with slightly weaker 83 points. The editors of Gamestar have given the PC version a rating deduction of ten points (78 instead of 88) due to the technical problems.
