Overwatch 2: Part 2 of the hit team shooter goes live!
On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the second part of Blizzard’s team shooter Overwatch will be released worldwide, including three new characters: DPS hero Sojourn, tank Junker Queen and support Kiriko. Here you will find everything you need to know about the launch!
Highlight recent changes
Overwatch 2 is almost here! The second part of the team shooter appears this Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 9 p.m. CEST worldwide. There are a few things you should know before the official release.
The important things first: Due to the F2P conversion, SMS account protection is required to play this game (with a fixed number, prepaid does not count)! So read this Blizzard blog carefully and follow the steps outlined there to prepare your account so you can jump into the game as soon as it comes out!
Pre-download Overwatch 2
To ensure you can play right away on release day, be sure to pre-download the game for your device!
- existing PC gamer and owner of Watchpoint Pack for PC can roughly 50GB Overwatch 2 Pre-download starting September 30 at approximately 10:30 p.m. CEST. This download runs automatically in the background if you have automatic updates enabled on Battle.net. Otherwise, you’ll need to start the download manually by clicking the gear icon to the right of the Play button and then selecting Check for Updates.
- existing console gamer can the approx. 30 GB large download at the October 4 at approximately 18:00 CEST start.
Merge your accounts
With the Introducing cross-platform progression Players can merge multiple Overwatch accounts to transfer their game progress and cosmetic goodies to a single Overwatch 2 profile. Existing players with multiple accounts will need to confirm account merging in order to transfer their progress from Overwatch to Overwatch 2. If you only made progress in Overwatch on one platform, you don’t need to do anything else. For more information on account merging, see the FAQ.
Watch Overwatch 2 on Twitch and earn a legendary skin for Kiriko!

As a reminder, with the introduction of cross-platform progression, you’ll unlock these perks once and then use them on your account on any platform you choose to play. Prior to release, Overwatch’s servers will be briefly disabled
Publishing a video game is no easy exercise! For Overwatch 2 the developers have to disable the current version of Overwatch on October 3rd at approximately 18:00 CEST. That means October 2nd is the last full day you can play the original Overwatch!
