The wife of a German LoL professional says she’s getting death threats – can no longer work
In the wake of the League of Legends World Cup, a conflict over Team Fnatic escalates. The team’s German botlaner, Elias “Upset” Lipp, left the LoL Worlds 2021 early. One of his teammates blamed Upset’s wife for this. She now says she gets death threats almost every day “because of this boy.”
What kind of conflict was that?
- For teams in League of Legends, the worlds at the end of the year are the highlight of a season. After a crisis, the Fnatic team was able to qualify for the LoL Worlds as one of 3 teams from Europe.
- The team’s German botlaner left before the first game. He said he had a family emergency at home. It is very difficult for him to leave the team, but there is no other way. Fnatic then retired without a chance in the main round.
- As a result, the French botlaner, Adam, left the Fnatic team. He was the greatest talent in European LoL in 2021. But the 19-year-old apparently cannot forgive Upset for leaving the team at the Worlds. He claims Upset left because his wife felt lonely. Upset denies that.

This is what the woman from Upset says: Upset’s wife is Twitch streamer and influencer Paulaeal. She has 132,000 followers on Twitch and mainly shows League of Legends. She hasn’t streamed there in a while. She has 405,000 subscribers on Instagram.
She posted a picture of Adam and Upset on Twitter. She says:
“I get death threats almost every day because of this boy – for no reason at all.”

In the tweet she quotes, you can read that Adam changed his name in the solo queue from LoL to “Lonely Wife UwU”.
An allusion to Upset allegedly leaving the worlds just because his wife felt lonely.
The Twitch streamer says she works on social media. But there is nothing I can do about it, because you counter so much hatred. In doing so, she was not guilty of anything – she was being harassed on the basis of mere assumptions.
That never happened before. If Adam had a problem, he could discuss it directly with her husband – but Adam just didn’t reply to the messages.
What does the LoL professional say about it? Upset says he’s tried to speak to Adam in person several times, but Adam ignored him. Adam just wanted to direct more hatred towards Upsets wife. That was disgusting. He avoids any conversation (via twitter).
What’s going on there? Adam had left Fnatic in an argument. He had also alleged that Upset not only failed the team, but also tried to evict him from the team and replace him with a friend of his.
Adam Apologizes on Twitch – Didn’t get on with Worlds
How does Adam react? Adam met in a Twitch stream on the evening of December 6th. apologized for his behavior. Renaming his name to “Lonley Wife UwU” was childish and selfish. That was the stupidest idea of his life. The reaction of the fans made it clear to him.
He says it was a result of deep frustration. He just couldn’t get over Upset’s departure from the Worlds, so he had this “stupid reaction” for which he apologizes.
Adam says he’d like to leave that behind now. After the Worlds, he wanted answers to his questions and was angry with Upset. Adam criticizes Upset for not clarifying the situation after the Worlds and not contacting the team to clear up the open questions. It was only after Adam went public that Upset got in touch.
People need to understand how important the worlds were to Adam. It could be that the 2021 Worlds were the only worlds he ever qualified for. The whole situation frustrated him completely. That is human and understandable. He felt he was being treated disrespectfully and therefore – out of frustration – renamed his name.
Serious childish behavior
This is behind it: Adam is only 19 years old and apparently extremely ambitious, otherwise you won’t be “Rookie of the Year” in LoL. Apparently he couldn’t handle the worlds going so bad for Fnatic after the team struggled a year to get there.
The fact that he consistently assumes that Upset has left the team just because his wife misses him seems outrageous. Both Upset and his wife have made it clear that this was absolutely not the reason Upset left. But you ask to respect their privacy. You don’t want to give the exact reason.
If Adam changes his name to LoL, it may seem like a childish prank from the outside, but because Adam is so in the focus of LoL fans and Fnatic is such an important team for many people, it has serious effects on the lives of Upset and his wife.
To an outsider, it also sounds absurd that a mega-talent like Adam, who is only 19 years old, believes his first worlds could also be his last – but in Adam’s head that seems a real possibility.
