Cyberpunk 2077 developer explains broken police and makes strange Elden Ring comparison

Just yesterday we reported about a mod, thanks to the PC players Cyberpunk 2077 one Metro system including 19 stations preserved. A feature that was originally planned, but was later discarded by CD Projekt Red. Another feature that was implemented for the release, but is completely buggy and practically non-existent, is car chases with the police. Anyone who played the action RPG remembers, among other things, officers popping up and running out of breath after just a few meters.

Quest Director Pawel Sasko now has one for the one year cyberpunk anniversary Let’s Play Livestream started, answering questions about the game from the community – and giving a rather unfortunate answer on the topic.

No police are chasing us in Elden Ring and Sonic Frontiers, either

This is what it’s about: In the six-hour live stream – we have included the video below for you – Sasko is asked why in Cyberpunk, in contrast to “all other open world games”, no police chases were implemented.

Sasko first corrects the question and says that not every open world game has such a mechanic. He cites Sonic Frontiers and … Elden Ring as examples. And yes, that’s right, in the upcoming game with the blue hedgehog and also in FromSoftware’s fantasy role-playing game, we are not being followed by the police. But it would be funny: A merciless fight against a snarling dragon, and suddenly, tatütata, the police are there. The dragon is arrested, on to the next boss.

Okay, kidding aside. It goes without saying that this comparison is of course unsuitable. Much more problematic, however, is his statement that with the GTA series and “the game from Ubisoft” aka Watch Dogs, only a few or not all open world games have such a chaser. Own mechanics. The truth is, however, that from Skyrim to Saints Row to Mafia and Sleeping Dogs, tens of games have such a feature. From then on it is also present in cyberpunk, only completely unusable.

Reasons for the poor implementation

In the further course of the live stream, Sasko goes into the reasons why the feature could not be implemented correctly. Sasko says that many features have fallen victim to limitations. In the special case of the police chases, he speaks of technical limitations that have made implementation impossible for the Polish development team. But he also mentions that they would have liked to have implemented the feature correctly.

It remains to be seen whether improvements will be made in upcoming (free) DLCs or the current-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S in spring 2022.

What do you think of Sasko’s statements: Unhappy expressed, meant in joke?
