These are the 10 worst games in 2021 according to Metacritic

At the end of the year it’s time to look back again. In addition to the beautiful things, of course, we also have to deal with the negative ones. Metacritic did just that, posting their list of the ten worst games of 2021.

This is how Metacritic works: The site collects the review ratings from many institutions, such as magazines, online portals and YouTube channels, and uses them to form a so-called Metascore, i.e. the average. How sensible this is, everyone has to decide for themselves, because the site naturally makes a subjective selection of qualified testers. For a quick overview, however, the average rating is always good.

Most of the games on the List from Metacritic should only be known to very few of you. However, there are also two big names among them that we would not have expected in such a review when the respective announcement was made: Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and eFootball 2022.

eFootball is the “winner” 2021: Konami did pretty much everything wrong with the launch of eFootball 2022. The Free2Play model actually has potential for sports games, as it could replace the annual roster updates at full price. To do this, however, a title must also be playable and offer enough content right from the start that we can deal with. A new attempt is to be started in spring 2022 with the major update 1.0. But can the project still be saved?

You can read more about the eFootball disaster here:

The Switch has a problem: The Nintendo Switch is only represented with two games, but these show the weak point of the hybrid approach quite well. Balan Wonderworld and GTA: The Trilogy were bitter disappointments, but shouldn’t be among the worst titles of the year. On the technically old-fashioned Switch, the games also run extremely poorly and thus come to their lousy ratings.

We even had to issue a purchase warning for the Switch version of the GTA Trilogy:

Buy warning: GTA Trilogy for the Nintendo Switch is a real crime

And here are the complete top 10:

  1. eFootball 2022 – 25 (PC)
  2. Balan Wonderworld – 36 (Nintendo Switch)
  3. Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood – 42 (PS4)
  4. Taxi Chaos – 42 (PS4)
  5. Of Bird and Cage – 44 (PC)
  6. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition – 47 (Nintendo Switch)
  7. I Saw Black Clouds – 48 (PS4)
  8. Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace – 48 (PC)
  9. Demon Skin – 48 (PC)
  10. Necromunda: Hired Gun – 49 (PS4)

Which games are missing? Of course, we all played different titles this year and each of us had our own bullets that couldn’t convince us. At GamePro, aliens were particularly noticeable: Fireteam Elite, Biomutant and Rustler.

Now the question is: Can you find your cucumber on the list for 2021? And which game do you think definitely belongs in Flop 10 of the year?
