YouTuber pours 15 GameBoy Color in resin and the internet is mad at him

The well-known American YouTuber Logan Paul caused a controversy with a new project: He cast 15 old Nintendo handheld consoles in epoxy resin and built a table out of them. Some hate him for it – others don’t understand where the hatred comes from.

Who is the YouTuber? Logan Paul is considered an extremely controversial YouTuber and internet personality. At least since his boxing match against his colleague KSI in 2018, his name has been known worldwide. The fight has been repeated and has even made Twitch stars like xQc want to follow suit.

The YouTuber follows many trends with which he can strengthen his personality and his name. In 2018, for example, he got into Fortnite, although he was never interested in it before. In February 2021, he bought Pokémon cards for $ 2 million.

Paul always causes trouble with his videos and posts and seems to be deliberately provoking. In 2017, for example, he bought a working GameBoy Color, only to willfully crush it on the street shortly afterwards (via Twitter.com).

What has he done now? In one of his latest videos from December 2021, he cast 15 GameBoy Color consoles in epoxy resin. He then framed all of this with metal and created a chic table:

The campaign attracted a lot of attention – both from people who think the table is cool and from disgruntled users. Even other well-known names like Seth Everman joined the discussion. The post received over 7 million views within a few days.

GameBoy table creates discussions

This causes anger: The biggest criticism of the action is apparently that the YouTuber irrevocably destroys the devices through his action. It is extremely unlikely that they could be removed from epoxy resin in a functional manner.

Behind this seems to be a good deal of nostalgia from users who see the GameBoys as part of their childhood. Some think the table is cool, but would have liked it to have been built sustainably.

Plexiglass panels, for example, would have achieved the same thing, but not destroyed the consoles. And then they would also be interchangeable. @adzetko wrote on Twitter for example: “GameBoys are no longer produced and are becoming increasingly rare and expensive. But you are in your ivory tower. Drowning them in epoxy wasn’t necessary to build a table. “

Is it really so bad? Many users do not understand where the hatred comes from. They see this as a project where other YouTubers would never have gotten so much trouble. After all, it was Paul’s money and he could do whatever he wanted with the GameBoys.

Getting to the devices is not even difficult. On ebay, for example, there are used handhelds for $ 30 and up, and some of the devices can also be bought in Germany for as little as 10 € (via ebay.com). GameBoys are not really rare either.

In addition, nobody knows whether the devices are still working. Of course, one could have thought more sustainably here – but that’s his project. Twitter user @ Kl3XY roughly writes:

“I don’t understand what people’s problem is. He bought the GameBoy Color, he can do whatever he wants with them. There are not only 15 GameBoy Color in the world. “

In the end, it is up to you whether you like the action or not. In any case, Logan Paul attracted a lot of attention. And at least his 15 GameBoys can no longer be used for any crimes:
