Dead by Daylight improves a lot – but not its biggest problems

The Dead by Daylight community is calling for improvements, because the worst problems have existed for years and are only getting worse.

Dead by Daylight’s next patch, Update 5.5.0, looks promising. Not only does the previously mute pinhead finally get his voice back, but also particularly annoying mechanisms such as “wiggling” or holding down a key are improved. But the most serious problems of the horror game remain – and that has not escaped the community either.

What are the problems? Dead by Daylight has become more and more successful and popular over the years, but is becoming increasingly unattractive for new players. This is mainly due to the fact that with every new character the grind grows that the player has to endure in order to finally be able to play good builds of perks. If you want to have all the perks to enjoy maximum freedom, you have to invest several hundred hours of playing time now.

How would the players fix this? In the subreddit of Dead by Daylight, a recent contribution received a lot of support. After just 12 hours, he has collected over 2,200 upvotes and suggests 4 different changes:

  • The different ranks (tiers) for perks should be abolished.
  • The amount of blood points obtained should generally be increased.
  • The upper limit of 1,000,000 blood points is to be abolished.
  • The limit of 8,000 blood points in each category is to be abolished.

Above all, many see the abolition of the perk ranks as a good solution, because that would reduce the grind by 66%. That’s still many hours and the problem would worsen again in the years to come, but in the short term it would provide relief.

What other reactions are there? The proposed measures are discussed under the thread. Most players are of the opinion that just removing the perk ranks would be enough to get the problems under control.

Kopaka6 writes about this:

They add more characters, with more teachable perks, which means even more junk in the blood web. These changes are all rationally justified.

ChRunningWater says:

It would be okay for me if they just abolish the perk ranks. This has become such an outdated mechanism.

Bloodshaded believes that just removing the perks would not be enough. He explains in more detail:

Dead by Daylight’s grind scales at a geometric rate. With each character that is added, there are not just 3 new perks … we get 3 new perks that will be added to the bloodstream of all existing characters, past, current and future. We are currently at 25 killers (excluding the Demogorgon). That’s 25 killers with 75 teachable perks per killer. Ten more and we’re at 35 killers with 105 teachable perks per killer. We’re talking about thousands of blood webs here, and that doesn’t even include perk ranks, standard perks, survivor perks, the prestige system, and the need for some killers to purchase certain add-ons.

The whole system needs an overhaul.

What do you think of the current problems with the grind in Dead by Daylight? How could this still be fixed?
