Xbox boss says what Call of Duty fans want to hear after Activision deal

After Microsoft announced that it wanted to buy Activision Blizzard, the questions about the games from the game developer came up. The “Call of Duty” franchise in particular is traditionally at home on Sony’s Playstation. How should it go from there? This is now revealed by the Xbox boss.

This is the situation:

This is what the Xbox boss says: In a short Post on Twitter Xbox boss Phil Spencer speaks of talks with Sony. There it says that you want to keep all existing agreements. This would particularly affect Call of Duty.

The tweet reads: “I confirm our intention to maintain all existing agreements following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our commitment to keep Call of Duty on the PlayStation. Sony is an important part of the industry and we value our relationship.”

Before that, there was uncertainty among fans. Already when Blizzard bought Zenimax and Bethesda for 7 billion in 2021, it was announced that some upcoming games would no longer appear on the PlayStation. At least the new CoD will now be safe.

Microsoft wants to buy Activision Blizzard and the internet freaks out

What actually happened? With the purchase of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has given clear signals to expand in certain areas. Apparently, the Xbox Game Pass offer is to be expanded, but cloud gaming is also discussed again and again.

However, among fans, the biggest concern has been how their games will continue. Questions have been asked about Overwatch and WoW coming to Game Pass. Memes popped up saying you would now have to log into WoW with your Windows ID — or get help with questing from the nice Microsoft Word paperclip, Clippy.

The question of the boss Bobby Kotick also came up. After the 2021 sexism scandal, Blizzard in general and Activision boss Bobby Kotick in particular have fallen out of favor. Fans are wishing he was gone – and after the takeover, that could actually happen.

The MeinMMO editors-in-chief, together with guest Micha Graf from GameStar, explained the situation in more detail in a special podcast. You can listen to it here:

What happens now? First of all, it remains to be seen whether the cartel office will approve the takeover. We will probably only find out more details in the course of the year. Which games will then come into the Game Pass or which will be newly developed is still pending.

Spencer himself said in an interview that he wants to bring back the “games of his childhood”. We don’t know yet whether this refers to old classics such as Hexen, Rock’n’Roll Racing or The Lost Vikings.

But we also want to know your opinion. Take our poll and tell us what you think of the acquisition – is it good or bad?
