Patch 1.12 in Horizon Forbidden West has missed Stealth a nerf.

Horizon Forbidden West regularly receives new patches that should improve the gaming experience of the open world adventure. While most of the fixes fix bugs, others tweak the balancing, which fans aren’t always happy about. For example, an update briefly annoyed legendary weapons, which was later fixed, but still caused a lot of displeasure in the community. It could look similar with the new adjustment from update 1.12, which makes life more difficult for stealth fans.

Update 1.12 nerfs stealth on large machines

The relevant patch note from update 1.12 ensures that Aloy cannot remain hidden if she deals too much damage at once on larger machines:

  • The more powerful medium and large machines enter combat when they lose 35% of their health in one fell swoop.

In concrete terms, this means that Aloy will be automatically detected if she causes too much damage to the machines in question at once – even if she is actually well hidden. This is particularly frustrating for players who rely on a stealth build. Compared to the predecessor Zero Dawn, the well-loved tripcasters, which are wonderfully suited for unseen action, have already been nerfed in the successor. Now stealth gameplay gets even harder for those who enjoy playing Aloy as an assassin.

It depends on the damage: After all, the change only applies when Aloy wipes 35% of the lifebar at once, not when the machines have lost 35% health overall. So if you act wisely and don’t drain more than a third of the life bar of the affected machines at once, you can remain hidden – but hitting this value can’t be that easy.

In addition to this adjustment, the new fix also brings a lot of other changes, including a bunch of bug fixes that ensure, for example, that Aloy can no longer lock himself in the toilet at the base. We have listed everything that is in patch 1.12 here, including patch notes.

This is certainly not the last update for Forbidden West, not least because fans are still waiting for an NG+. There are also hints of possible DLCs, such as a mysterious island that lies outside the boundaries of the game world. And although a possible sequel is still a long way off, Guerrilla Games already seems to be preparing for a third part.

Are you bothered by the stealth nerf or do you prefer to go into combat head on?
