What exactly is this update? The new update will unlock VRR on the PS5. This feature syncs your framerate and PS5 graphics. This minimizes annoying graphic errors as well as delays and stutters. This makes the gameplay much smoother for you, especially if you are playing at high frame rates.

When is the update coming? Sony had stated in an official blog post that the update for the PS5 should come this week (via blog.playstation.com).

How to enable VRR on PS5? Once you install the update, VRR will be automatically enabled in supported games. However, the prerequisite is that you have connected your PS5 console to a VRR-compatible television or PC monitor. You can often recognize this by the fact that the television or monitor supports HDMI 2.1.

However, if you have problems with VRR, you can simply disable the feature under “Screen and Video” in the system settings. Additionally, you can enable VRR in PS5 games that don’t support it. This can improve video quality for some games.
