Blizzard finally promises information about Warcraft Mobile after 4 years – but what kind of game will it be?

Not only Diablo Immortal was announced at BlizzCon 2018, but also a mobile game for Warcraft, which was probably in development for some time. In the meantime, more years have passed, but real, tangible information is still missing. However, Blizzard has now made an announcement about the announcement.

April 29 update: Blizzard has now announced that the new information about the game will be shared with players on May 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

What exactly was announced? In the earnings call, in which the current quarterly figures from Acitivision Blizzard were discussed, it was also briefly about Warcraft Mobile. There it said that “in the coming weeks” new details about a mobile game in the Warcraft universe will be revealed.

Warcraft Mobile doesn’t have a genre yet, but many are hoping for an MMORPG

What game is this going to be? That is still completely unknown. However, there are some statements that contain at least circumstantial evidence.

In spring 2021, Bobby Kotick revealed that there should be more and more premium content for the Warcraft franchise. This is intended to maintain and expand the World of Warcraft community.

Appropriate additions to WoW would be:

• A pet battle game that uses WoW’s pet battle system and possibly even ties it into the base game.
• A hero collector where players could collect familiar Warcraft characters and use them in battles.

Of course, a WoW mobile version with crossplay or a completely separate MMORPG based on the world of Warcraft would also be possible. These versions would be significantly more complex, which could explain the long development time.

Also, a statement from the last quarterly report indicates that Warcraft Mobile will be playable as early as this year, albeit only in a beta:

How long is Warcraft Mobile in development? Clayton Chod is a 3D artist and has been working on Warcraft Mobile for a long time. He has been with Blizzard since 2016 and, by his own admission, has been working on the mobile game for “the longest time at Blizzard” in 2021.

Since this game was announced at the end of 2018, development should have started some time before that. This implementation has probably been in the works for four to five years.
