Overwatch 2: “Hanzo is trash,” says Mayor of New York City
Overwatch is a fairly popular esports title, with numerous teams competing for the crown every year. One of these teams, called the NY Excelsior, is based in New York and has now made New York City Mayor Eric Adams an honorary member. In response, Adams stated:
Mayor of New York City isn’t a fan of Overwatch’s Hanzo
“I couldn’t hit the send button fast enough – I may not be a gaming expert, but at least I’m not trash like Hanzo!”
It’s currently unknown what this honorary membership actually means for the mayor, but Adams seems proud to play with the organization. Adams himself wants New York City in one “global hub for the digital games industry” transform, like from one press release emerges. He also supports the City University of New York in starting a new program for digital game design.
“New York City has always been at the center of innovation, but it’s time for New York City to step up and finally become a leader in digital gaming. It’s time to harness all the talent we have here in New York have to leverage by investing in the future of gaming. This $2 million investment will help us reach 1,000+ students over the next three years and diversify gaming. This is how we get things done for our young people and for New York City.”
The United States and video games often face each other as enemies. It’s nice every now and then when a mayor is so committed to building the future of video games. Do you also think that Hanzo from Overwatch is just “garbage”? Or is Adams misinformed here?
