Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds relies on crypto, blockchain and soon NFTs

That’s right. The new Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds may look sweet, but it is said to work with cryptocurrencies and blockchain in the background. NFTs are also expected to come into play later this year.

From the outside ui, from the inside… well you know

Pretty bleak prospects for the cute mobile game from Netmarble, in which the popular animation studio Ghibli also had a hand.

According to Kotaku, the gacha game is full of “crypto bullshit”. Netmarble offers players an in-house cryptocurrency wallet that allows them to trade in-game items for developer Asterite or Territe tokens. These can then be exchanged for other cryptocurrencies.

And that’s not all, because Netmarble and publisher Level-5 also want to introduce NFTs in the fourth quarter of this year. So play-to-earn is really an intentional approach here, and it’s also advertised as such on the game’s website:

“Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds utilizes a gameplay-based blockchain system that allows players enjoying Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds to earn tokens through play,” it reads.

Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds has a dreamlike world. Unfortunately, the game has a major catch.

“Players can purchase two types of tokens in the Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds blockchain system, and our team will do its best to preserve the values of the tokens.”

As can be seen from Kotaku’s report, after just a week, many players realize that cryptocurrency buyers have a great advantage as they buy the best sets and animals directly – without any gacha. Especially in PvP, this creates a massive imbalance that robs many players of the fun.

Despite criticism, Netmarble is sticking to the plans

Visually, the game for mobile and PC is really an eye-catcher. It’s a shame that Netmarble overwhelms it with so much crypto nonsense, which then also brings disproportionate benefits to paying buyers. I can understand it if one or the other is not in the mood to try out the game.

That’s what many fans and interested people think. On Twitter, some players write that they have uninstalled the game after the release of Netmarble’s NFT plans or have left their hands on it. Others are calling for a boycott. Of course, the developer noticed that and decided to do so voiced:

“We understand that there are some questions regarding the use of ‘Play to earn’ tokens in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds. Our goal is to create an environment where players can experience the amazing world of Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds can be explored to the fullest, and we believe the token economy is one way to achieve that.”

Using the tokens is optional. “If you don’t want to get involved in that part of the game, that’s totally fine,” it says. “We want you to find your own way to play and have fun in this magical world.” Despite all the criticism, Netmarble is not giving up on his plans.
