Warhammer 40,000 Boltgun: New retro FPS announced for PC and console

Fancy a retro shooter set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe? You will get it next year!

Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Auroch Digital have announced Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun for 2023. The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

A mix of old and new

According to the makers, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun should combine stylish retro graphics with “smooth, modern first-person shooter gameplay”.

You play as a battle-hardened Space Marine who is on a dangerous mission across the galaxy, fighting the Chaos Space Marines and the Demons of Chaos.

“In boomer shooter glory glory, you unleash your devastating Space Marine arsenal as you blast your way through an explosion of pixels and blood,” it reads. “Run, jump and charge through massive levels to shoot down, shred and slash the worst heretics in the galaxy!”

There is also talk of “buckets of blood”, so it’s not squeamish here.

Boltgun has been in development for several years, as Nina Adams, Operations Director at Auroch Digital, explains: “As a team full of Warhammer 40,000 fans, we’ve been working on the game since 2018 and are so happy to FINALLY be able to talk about it . We can’t wait to see the players’ reactions.”
