Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 could have an editor never seen before in the series

With Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, the famous shooter series enters the next round at the end of October. It’s now a bit clearer who will be back on board in the successor to 2019’s Modern Warfare – such as fan favorites Captain Price and John “Soap” MacTavish – but what exactly will be part of the campaign and multiplayer is ahead of the game official reveal on June 8th at 7 p.m German time but still unclear.

Accordingly, the rumor mill is simmering and the latest speculation concerns a special editor. Because how Whatifgaming reports that Activision and Infinity Ward plan to provide Modern Warfare 2 with a map editor and give players tools to modify the maps in the game.

Customize maps, don’t create them yourself

This is supposed to be about no complete map editor trade, which allows you to create new maps from scratch. Instead, there should be options to adapt existing maps, for example to change the position of objects or to take them out of the game altogether. This should make individual cards feel significantly different. There is also talk of new spawn points, goals or objectives and restrictions for the respective map.

Even if it is not yet known how many maps will be included in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer mode, such an option would have the potential, at least on paper, to provide even more long-term motivation – depending on the extent of the customization options, of course. Because if individual maps actually feel and play differently due to a certain change, a large variation would be required here.

Verification of the maps important: However, the installation of such a function also requires a certain amount of maintenance on the part of developer Infinity Ward. The source therefore speaks of a verification of the creators, who should receive a corresponding label if they work diligently, similar to Twitter (blue tick). Variants that are particularly recommended should, for example, be immediately recognizable or able to be evaluated in order to get a better overview of the available variants.

Since it is only a rumor so far, the question of the exact implementation does not yet arise. It would be a first for the series though, as Call of Duty has never seen an editor like this before.

The upcoming game has little to do with that, apart from the title, because it is more about a sequel to the Modern Warfare reboot from 2019.
