I really don't want any other MMORPGs besides WoW, but Starkeepers looks too good

The featured games at this year’s E3 replacement have been meager so far. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus was fascinated by some rather hidden titles. Including one that has the potential to swallow a lot of time.

I’m a passionate WoW player. Sure, survival games are my expertise and take up a lot of my time. But it was because of World of Warcraft that I came to MeinMMO and to this day the MMORPG is the only one I’ve been playing long-term.

It just takes too much time to commit to an MMORPG. Many games are tested, but at some point I’ll return to WoW – thanks to the guild, friends and the bond with the characters, some of whom have accompanied me for 16 years.

I’m sure each of you knows something like this. It’s just stupid that a new MMORPG has now been announced that pulls exactly the right strings for me. In the trailer, Starkeepers shows everything I would want to see in my dream MMO.

In a fantasy world, I get to play an animal that obviously behaves like a Viking. Vikings are exactly my thing and then I can also build my own city with others? Perfect!

In addition, the combat system looks really great. An action RPG with lots of skills and apparently different ways of playing. Even the somewhat playful, less detailed graphics don’t bother me much. Games have shown many times before that gameplay is more important than visuals. See for yourself, it only takes 30 seconds:

If Tribes of Midgard was an MMO…

What kind of game is this? Not much is really known about Starkeepers. The world is based on mythological models and interaction is a big focus. We should build cities and write our own epic.

To do this, we make decisions, alone and together, that can change the world for everyone. Because Starkeepers wants to be a real MMO-ARPG with PvP and co-op elements. Many problems can be solved with violence.

As for the usual elements like classes, there is only the statement that we can learn combat skills from relics and transform ourselves into “various ancient warriors”. Attributes, equipment, and occult weapons that we can craft ourselves are for customization.

All in all, the game feels a bit like the new Steam hit V Rising or Tribes of Midgard, which sadly goes too much under the radar. Hopefully, Starkeepers will draw a little more interest.

When is Starkeepers coming out? A release is scheduled for 2023 for PC Steam planned. When exactly Starkeepers will appear is not yet certain. However, I’m really looking forward to seeing more of the game.

I have a weakness for rather inconspicuous titles and indie games anyway. I think they often just do a lot of things better than big AAA titles. That’s probably why independent titles in particular appealed to me at this year’s events.

The upcoming Nightingale, for example, looks terribly interesting. It feels like something New World doesn’t dare to be and packs a lot of fantastic elements into a PvE game with survival aspects and co-op. Here is some gameplay:

Nightingale shows new trailer with PvE gameplay, looks more and more like Valheim

Most recently, Lord of the Rings also surprised me with a new survival game. Mine Moria with other dwarves and just let the Balrog sleep? That’s exactly what I need for a pleasant round with friends.

And all of that – Nightingale, Return to Moria, and now Stormkeepers – is a nice balance to what else was on display at Summer Game Fest. Because for some reason many developers think that gamers like to be scared and want to see bloody butchery scenes…

The Summer Game Fest 2022 was the purest horror event – what that means for the gaming year
