Hardspace: Shipbreaker turns out to be a Steam hit: The space ship wrecking simulation in the first person perspective has sold around 500,000 copies by the end of the publisher’s fiscal year. Publisher Focus Interactive calls this a “very successful PC Early Access.” Player numbers have also been quite stable since the release of 1.0.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker puts the player in the role of a scrap collector who scavenges old spaceships for scrap and materials in a space sandbox in order to sell them for money and new equipment. To do this, you cut the spaceships into small pieces with state-of-the-art destruction technology and thereby get hold of valuable minerals for a multi-million dollar company. But there are also hazards in the form of explosive depressurization, fuel, electricity and radiation. The rudimentary story puts an incompetent manager in front of us, who provides us with new orders. The aim of the game is to pay off a horrendous loan.

The physics sandbox has been well received by players. Long-term ratings for Hardspace: Shipbreaker stand at “Very Positive”. Around 88 percent of the reviews for the title were positive. And short-term reviews are looking good too, with 83 percent of those reviews being positive. In recent reviews, Hardspace: Shipbreaker stands at “mostly positive”. Players praise the smooth and fun gameplay and increasing difficulty. Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a low-intensity, relaxing, yet thought-provoking game that keeps you on your toes, wrote a reviewer on Steam. However, the title receives some criticism for its focus on the story. The story is too intrusive and doesn’t fit well into the gameplay.
